Our Love Story X The Playlist

Before my husband and I got married, like most new age couples (lol) we decided to build a website for our wedding.  However, also like most couple, we had to figure out what to put on the website. Of course we decided on the usual wedding stuff like, the bridal party, engagement pics, wedding and travel details, etc. but we wanted to do something different. 

Since we both love music, my husband came up with the idea to tell our story through a His & Hers playlist. We thought it would be fun and a great memory, and now look at us! Reminsicing on this black love! I still remember the back in forth of trying to figure out which songs would make the cut! Lol

In short, our love story was just that.. ours, and through everything we had been through, we wanted to enjoy our love, because we deserved it.

Even in me writing this post, it’s a reminder for me to stay in love, because our marriage has been hard. So this is my reminder to play these songs more often, to help me remember.

BAD TIMING

They met in the winter of 2011 while attending a church conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. Both Cat and Brennen were in romantic situations but the first impressions were made.  She noticed him and he noticed her but it was bad timing.

Four years later, in the process of her divorce Cat was trying to rediscover herself. Depression hit, sadness and all kinds of hurtful things said and done to others and herself, so she changed up her Facebook pictures and guess who noticed? Yep! Brennen Boose ;-) He hit the like button enough times for Cat to notice. So who sent the first message? Cat! It happened to be Brennen birthday so she sent him a direct message (DM) and  Happy Birthday turned  into how you been? Which then turned into Cat messaging “here’s my number.”

After a month of constant conversations on the phone talking morning, noon and night discussing music, love, God and family they were itching to see each other!! Ready for the first face-to-face meet up since 2011, the anticipation was unreal! The first public post of Cat and B shocked some of their closes friends and family. This was the first time people got a glimpse of the connection they were making. It was all smiles when Brennen stop through Nashville on his way to New York and they snapped a quick pic in the backyard of Cat’s parents house.

JUST FRIENDS

So the questions began, who is she? Who is he? Are they together? But their answers remained the same.. “We’re just Friends,” is what they kept telling people. However, under the surface they were driving hundreds of miles back in forth from Nashville to Little Rock/Little Rock to Nashville just to see each other.

2000 MILES

Still uncertain about this new guy, Cat made a drastic decision to move 2000 miles away. She got a job offer to work in the music biz in Los Angeles and took it. Even though she knew her connection to Brennen was special she felt it was important to follow her dreams and experience new things. Brennen also shared in the uncertainty of remaining connected but was willing to try despite the distance.

KING ME/QUEEN ME

After weighing his options and listing the pros and cons of long distance love, Brennen decided to take a chance on what he believed could be everything he wanted. During Cat’s first visit from LA to see him in Little Rock, Brennen asked Cat to be his girlfriend at Little Rock’s downtown River Market district over ice cream.

As Cat continued to get adjusted to life in LA, she couldn’t wait to see Brennen so they agreed to meet in Nashville for Thanksgiving where Brennen would be introduced to her family. Brennen met the Moons! Soon after, taking a major step, Brennen invited Cat to spend Christmas with his family in Rochester, NY. This was a big deal for him being that this would be the first time Brennen was bringing any woman home to meet his friends and family. After this trip Brennen knew Cat was the one God had intended for him. They stood together in church and asked for prayer for the connection they were developing.

Being that it was difficult in LA for Cat, she had to make a decision as the whether or not to move back to Nashville. Without pause, Brennen bought a one way ticket to LA with his mind set on driving Cat back home.. And so the two day  road trip begin from California to Tennessee. Oh the memories and conversation that were had. Some good sleep too (well only for Cat) LOL! After being back in Nashville, Cat was trying to figure out what was next. This turned into alot of back in forth between Cat and B. Even though Cat knew Brennen was a special guy, she was scared to fall completely in love again. And so the many many conversations, prayers and devotions continued..

The stars were bright, the moon was just right. Brennen had fallen for Cat. He wanted to show her the love she didn’t believe existed. No hidden agendas, ulterior motives or selfish intentions; just genuine love and appreciation for the woman God made. He saw past the scars and hurts from fugaze love and could only see this beautiful song bird that captured his heart. So he asked her would she mind having a partner to make her dreams come true. She said she could use the company.

Cat and Brennen went back in forth about whether to move in together before their wedding. They both knew  it would be a challenge that would test their relationship. The sharing of space, allowed them to learn each other on a different level than ever before. All in all, lessons were learned, changes were made and love was not lost. During the engagement period, more and more they realize the importance of having someone by your side, as your partner through life.  Even with their flaws they deserve to be loved and they’re glad they have each other to cry, laugh, joke and love.

Now it's 2017 and we're getting married. We're heading back to Rochester to make it official on July 1st 2017 and celebrating with the people we love. Right afterwards we'll probably go somewhere nice and just celebrate with each other.  The honeymoon has been set. Negril Jamaica is the destination and we are excited to spend time away just the two of us.
