Andy Warhol
The idea is NOT to live forever, but to create something that will. - Andy Warhol
Some of the most intelligent humans that have walked this earth were creative artists. People with the gall to create something that could last forever. Whether a song, a painting, a story, an image, a graphic, a character, etc.
Andy Warhol was one of those people. I learned in depth about him roughly eight years ago. I was in Los Angeles working for Broadcast Music Inc. when I found a book of his artwork. I was intrigued because the book was massive and weighty. After exploring this book for over an hour, I was captivated to do more research on the pop art movement and his work as a visual artist, film director, and producer.
As a teenager, I remember seeing the influences of the pop art style while watching MTV, from their logo to the myriad of pop art-influenced music videos. Even though the pop art movement was primarily between the 1950s and 1970s, it is impressive how this creative art form is still used in pop culture over fifty years later.
Having a hand in something that lasts forever is undefinable. As I've gotten older, I think a lot about what I will leave behind, and these thoughts have shifted my intention about what it means to create.
